Good evening. I want to start off by thanking all our friends and family that have gathered here today to celebrate this very special occasion with us. I hope everyone is enjoying the evening so far. To Aksa and Ali, you both look like you were made for each other tonight and I hope to always see you smiling. I apologize to all the married women in the ballroom, but I have to admit, my sister makes the most beautiful bride I have ever seen.
I am lucky to be the maid of honor and even more lucky to be Aksa’s younger sister.
We throw the word “sister” around without thinking, but how can you possibly describe this relationship? What’s in a sister? She’s your twin and your polar opposite. She’s your constant competition and your forever companion. She’s everything you wish you weren’t, and everything you wish you could be.
We have had a very close relationship and it would be impossible to share our memories with you in just a few words, but I will try my best. Growing up, there was never a dull moment. If you know Aksa, you know how funny she is. We’ve spent more time telling jokes, being careless, and laughing together than anything else. From being my play-mate as a child to being my study-buddy throughout school & college – she has been the one constant in my life – my best friend, always.
From happiness, tears, success, and failure, Aksa and I have been through it all, together.
Everyone has always asked us “Don’t you get sick of each other?”, and to be honest I’ve never felt the need for space from her! Aksa has continuously complemented my introversion with her extroversion, my sassiness with her kindness, my extreme impatience with her patience and tolerance, and often, my pessimism with her optimism.
I won’t say I’ve always looked up to Aksa, because I am pretty sure I have always been the more mature one, but I can definitely say, I am constantly in awe of her .
There truly is no one like my sister, Aksa. I think Ali would agree when I say, he is lucky to call her his wife.
Congratulations to Aksa and Ali on this new journey. We are thrilled that Ali is joining our family and we look forward to making memories with the new couple and the Sohail Family.
Good evening everyone. For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Sarah, the youngest sister of the bride. Aksa, I want to say thank you. You always make things entertaining and exciting for the rest of us. We are all proud to be a part of your life, and we would do anything for you. In addition to being so thoughtful, you’re always there for us when we need you, even though sometimes you can really drive us crazy. Thank you for bringing color into my life, Aksa, I hope there’s plenty in yours for many, many years. You’re ability to make me laugh is priceless. I wouldn’t trade you for anything in the world. I have always looked up to you and I am happy as can be for you and Ali Bhai. Congratulations and I love you Aksa.
ASA and Good evening everyone, I wanted to start by pointing out how beautiful all of you look tonight
For those of you who don’t know who I am, My name is Mariam and I am one of Aksa’s younger sisters.
Now I’m not going to lie and say that growing up we never fought or hated each other, because we did. It wasn’t until Aksa went off to college when I realized what a blessing she truly is. The relationship we’ve developed since then means the world to me.
She is always there for me, in the good times and the bad. SHe is the only one who can make me laugh in any situation as it’s not possible for me to be in a bad mood for long when she is around.
AKSA, I remember the time you dressed up as a man for Halloween when we were younger, I also will always remember the time you told all of my friends that I ate jelly beans out of the toilet bowl, and how every weekend you wake me up by jumping on the bed I am sleeping on, and I always am caught by surprise and love when you call me by my name, without the pronoun Moti attached to it. The list of memories is endless as I have known Aksa from the moment I was born and wouldn’t have it any other way. Her confidence has always inspired me to not worry about things I cannot change, and to be myself at all times.
As I have said before, Aksa is such a blessing , She’s taught me so much about life, what to do and what not to do in any situation, to always be the best I can be and if that fails, keep trying. It is certainly true that there is no better friend than a sister, and now I have the pleasure of having a brother as well. Congratulations to you both, and I wish you a happy life together.
